Today we ventured out to an area furthest north of Singapore, Punggol! To be exact it was at the LRT Riveria station where the Punggol promenade was found..taking the MRT purple line all the way to the last stop was a torture and upon alighting you would still have to take the LRT to your destination if not all you would see is construction going on.
Upon arrival at Riveria station, Popeye's eatery caught our eyes. We were actually looking out for Uncle Leong's seafood, which was actually near it. Our stroll at the promenade ended with a heavy downpour halfway and thus needing to take shelther and running to the restaurant when the rain was lighter. When we reach the restaurant, there was already a slight queue despite it being only 6 plus at night. The wind was brewing and we were really drenched. We got a table pretty quickly and headed to order a range of food, ensuring that it would not be too much.
First up was the salted fish fried rice. This time round there was no bean sprouts in it and probably due to our hunger, it was quite tasteful and the portion was really good. A small portion would be sufficient for two to share. Up next was the salted egg prawns..despite one of us not being a fan of salted egg, this dish was good! There were 8 prawns altogether and the flavour and taste was not too thick, giving it a nice touch to the food. We also ordered a seafood soup to keep us warm from the cold weather. The soup was slightly salty but generous with the different seafood in it. It was also a big bowl. Last but not least was the crab that we all have been waiting for. The meat was good, fresh and chunky. As for the taste, when we first tasted the gravy, I in particular thought it wasn't too bad, having a nice buttery taste. However, upon more servings of it, I realised what the problem was. In order to save cost (I presume), condensed milk was used as the main ingredient as a substitution to pure butter, thus one would not be able to eat too much of the gravy as you will get too sick of it after a while. That was a disappointment. On the overall, price was quite reasonable and the day ended well!
