Chinatown Smith Street Food Centre - where many wonderful food awaits us

This week, we headed to the central part of Singapore, landing at Chinatown food centre where its known for many famous food, and all I can say is yes there are really many good food here!!

As the waffle was not very hungry, I did not dare to order to much. After walking numerous rounds, I decided on the chicken rice stall. At first, I thought to just simply order a plate of chicken rice from any stall and just eat. However, I was pulled by an invisible force of attraction to Heng Ji Chicken Rice stall, which had a queue. I joined the queue and looked at the way the chicken was prepared. This stall only has white chicken and what makes this stall stands out is the price, which is very reasonable, and the auntie who takes our orders and collects the money from us. She is friendly and seems sincere in thanking each customerafter they ordered. For two person portion, there was quite a generous amount of chicken meat and two bowls of rice, a total of $6.60. Though it is not very cheap, with it being the cost of a normal plate of chicken rice, they were very generous with the portions. It was a really good meal of simple chicken rice.

The next item we wanted to try was the famous xiao long bao which was cheap and good. For only $5, you could 10 pieces of it. It was not hard to find the stall, with many people buying from it. I can't really remeber the name of the stall, but the number of the stall was 135. The xiao long bao was juicy and was quite nice, though it was a bit small. However, for the price we paid, it was quite worth it. After eating all of it, we decided to order the fried dumplings. This dish was not up to standard though. It was only one side crispy, while the other side was pale in colour and could taste a bit of flour. The meat filling was quite a big though thus was quite tasty but the skin spoiled it. Thumbs up for the xiao long bao but down for the fried dumplings.

You might also want to check out the fruit juice stall near the xiao long bao stall. It has a huge range of fruit juice that you can choose from and the price makes it even fantastic. I ordered beetroot with apple juice only for a mere $2, while freshly squeezed lime juice was only going for $1!! Simple amazing! Head down to this food centre soon..we are surely going back there!!
